Dorothy

Dorothy

Dorothy turned up (or was dumped) at a farm and, though beautiful, was a stroppy little madam! She hated the other cats here and found it hard to settle. She was a touch aggressive with most people who came to fuss her so it took someone very special to trust us that, in a calm home of her own, she would be a happier and friendlier cat.

Dorothy also starred as Miss October in our 2010 Calendar!

December 2009

As promised, I am writing to update you about life with Dorothy!

Dorothy has been such fun to have at home and we already love her dearly! I thought you would like to see the attached photo to see how quickly she settled down in our bathroom on her second evening with us!

Dorothy has been very curious, wanting to explore every crook and cranny of her new home and she is always pleased to see us in the mornings and when we get home from work in the evening; she rolls on her back and kneads the carpet! She lets us stroke her, we have found she rather likes being tickled under the chin and she is happy to be picked up and cuddled for a little while and then makes funny little chirrups when she has had enough! Her tail is constantly swishing as she explores and swishes a little faster if she is fed up of us making a fuss of her!

We have found that Dorothy loves the smell of roast chicken, having a little treat of some meat after dinner last week, and enjoyed a little bit of fresh cod on Saturday evening! Oh she is going to become a very pampered Dorothy!

She and Harry are getting along fine and treating each other with mutual respect! Peter and Louise have witnessed them giving each other a "kiss" on two occasions but unfortunately I missed them both times! Dorothy has also met her new grandparents and that meeting went very well too!

Dorothy gave us a wide berth on Sunday when we put up the Christmas tree and decorations, preferring to sleep under the bedcover on the carpet at the end of our bed. Once everything was in place she then rather enjoyed giving the decorations a few swipes with her paw and was not happy until she broke one of the decorations! Satisfied that she had achieved that she has left the Christmas tree alone ever since!

Dorothy's favourite games are to play with a pink feathered toy that Louise tirelessly twists and turns for her so that she can practise her acrobatics. She also loves playing with her play tunnel in the hallway because she can skid along the wooden floor when she runs through it! Thank you very much for trusting us to bring Dorothy home - she is going to bring us lots of pleasure, companionship and fun!

Also, I am hopeful that Dorothy is happy with us. While typing this email I noticed that Dorothy had made herself comfortable on the chair near me in the dining room. I took another photo of her and I am forwarding that one to you in a separate email.

We will keep in touch and we all want to send you all our very best wishes for Christmas and the New Year.

With kind regards Dorothy's mum

March 2010

It is now 3 months since we brought Dorothy home and I thought I should update you as to how she is doing!  Since I last wrote, which if I remember rightly was about a couple of weeks after we brought her home, Dorothy has continued to make our home her own as well.   She has definitely taken a liking to the bathroom basin, often sleeping in there, and guards it from sitting on the linen basket and considers it quite an imposition if we want to brush our teeth etc!

Dorothy has been going outside in the garden since Christmas although she was a bit slow on the uptake of using the catflaps!  She knew how to get in but didn't seem to know that she could get out in exactly the same way!  She seemed to prefer to use her litter tray in the kitchen rather than going outside but she pushed her luck too far one weekend when she spent about half an hour outside, Peter had just cleaned out her litter tray when she came racing in and promply used the litter tray and then proceeded to paw the litter all over the kitchen floor with gusto!  Peter promptly removed the litter tray, much to my dismay, but sure enough she immediately found her way out of the catflaps the next time nature called and she has never needed a litter tray since!

Dorothy had her first hunt a couple of weeks ago and brought in a litle sparrow as a present.  Fortunately, we were able to save the sparrow which flew off minus a few feathers!

She continues to be such a quirky character which we absolutely love! I have attached some photos of her relaxing on our bed, one of the photos being with our handsome cat, Harry.

I hope all is well with you at Feline Care.
